Sestosenso
During the 2011 Salone del Mobile in Milan, OPIUM collaborated with internationally acclaimed British light designer Paul Cocksedge, BMW, and FLOS to create a light installation inspired by the novel features on the BMW 6 Series. Inspired by the quality and beauty of light and the astonishing new BMW 6 Series, the first BMW with Full-LED headlights, Paul Cocksedge erected a seamless, curving, white wall extension to the FLOS showroom spaced with low-hanging red and white conical lamps.
As with the BMW headlights, the source of light remains hidden, seeming to exist only within the transparent frame of the glass. The result is an intense, yet caressing light, seducing the viewer to peer in its halo. Upon stepping inside the SESTOSENSO red lights, a video installation with sound design of the new BMW 6 Series Coupé reveals itself on the vast white wall. As if accessing a sixth sense, there is a hint of movement in the corner of the eye – like a luminescent apparition. Through the light we see the car. Through the car, we understand the light.
The light and magic of BMW brought to you by OPIUM in partnership with Paul Cocksedge.
